Redwood is delighted to have worked on this award-winning project. Our clients, an English couple, had purchased a half acre property in Old Greenwich with a view to removing the existing structure and rebuilding a beautiful waterfront family home. As soon as the demo sign went up however, they were besieged by requests from local residents to save what turned out to be one of the oldest houses in Greenwich.
Legend has it that in 1776 a British Navy frigate fired a canon ball that grazed the roof beams of the dwelling, so not wanting to upset the locals yet again the couple worked closely with various organizations to save the existing structure. The result of this collaboration is a wonderfully restored cottage attached via enclosed breezeway to a brand new 5 bedroom house with infinity pool, stunning kitchen, family room, wine cellar and an incredible master suite with panoramic views of Old Greenwich cove.
The actual site poised numerous engineering issues and creating a swimming pool that sits 30 feet above the ground tested everyone’s resolve, but our experience with other waterfront properties we had built stood us in good stead and the family moved in mid- May 2018. In November 2018, Redwood received the 2018 Home Building Industry "HOBI" Award for Best New / Old Custom Home for this project.
